Research on Basic Income
The Yukon Anti-Poverty Coalition was asked by the Government of Yukon to provide an assessment of the feasibility and potential impact of a basic income program. I worked with a small team to conduct mixed-methods research on these questions.
I led surveys and focus groups with individuals with lived experiences of poverty, researched basic income lessons from other jurisdictions, and analysed Yukon demographic data to identify potential target groups. I also supported collaborations with Indigenous governments and organisations, contributed to cost and impact estimates, and helped develop public-facing and government-facing deliverables.
This project was my first experience working in social policy in the North. Navigating in the North’s scarce data and barriers to data collection highlighted for me how important high-quality socioeconomic data is for policy development and population well-being.
